Daf - Face it Act Now

Face it Act NowDaf - a Chilean production company has created this great PSA for Face it Act Now (FIAN). They have fun, captivating concept that precisely support their message.

I have a student from Chile this semester and we were just talking about Chilean video production.

Hummer - Selector Ad

HummerMy friend Dru IM'd me the link to this facinating ad for Hummer. It was directed by Joseph Kosinski, and award-winning artist who is based in L.A.

This is one of the coolest commercials I've ever seen. It gives the feel of a video game without going too far in that direction. The effects are inspiring.

I'd never buy a Hummer though, as awesome as this commercial is. I'm more of the eco-friendly type of driver. Did you hear the next generation of Prius will get 80mpg and have a more powerful engine!?

Stock Footage Awards on SNL

This one aired again on Saturday Night Live tonight. It's so funny and a lot of us use stock footage, so I figure it might be appropriate for this crowd. Enjoy.

Loading.Ready.Run. - Halo: The Future of Gaming

This is kind of funny. I admit, I've never played Halo. I'm not a gamer. I used to kick major ass at Q*Bert and Tetris on Nintendo. I'm a bit old school when it comes to gaming.

This faux documentary of Halo taking over the world uses a lot of bad video effects. I was hoping in the future, we would no longer have bad video. Hehe.

They Might Be Giants - The Shadow Government

I've loved TMBG since I heard the song Birdhouse in your Soul from the album Flood. I was a teenybopper at that time and they've continued to produce quirky and interesting songs. I swear I've heard them doing themes to kids shows such as Higglytown Heros (I really hate that show. It's creepy how they jump inside each other. Nothing against the animation. It's great.)

Back to this video. Beautiful compositing and color scheme, lots of motion blur and 3D layers... it's a wild ride. This was done by ColourMovie who did that terrific video for 311, Don't Tread on Me.

Airpushers - Red Head Speedskater

red_head_speedskaterThis is a crazy bumpy world and she doesn't even wear knee pads. Red Head Speedskater, directed by Kompost, has some really cool and interesting animation. They're doing that 2.5D thing really well. The music is from the duo behind The Black Eyed Peas. Via if:mv.

Farmer's Insurance - Stolen Car

Incredible VFX spot by Campbell-Ewald. I've never had my car stolen, but I can imagine it would feel just like this.

Nintendo Rube Goldberg Animation by Eric, Juan and Steve

A creative student-created 3D animation. It was their first project and the movement is a little slow for me (patience isn't a virtue that I embody), it is very creative and lots of fun.

Check out this Rube Goldberg 'Half-Life 2', which is amazing. The sound effects really help it out. They used a mod to make this one, not a 3D app.

Kanye West - Good Life (Feat. T-Pain) (Dirty)

Jim G. sent me the link to this one. Awesome mograph work! I love the picture frame effect at 1:40. The champagne spill at the end of the video is also a really cool effect.

Omnikrom - Été Hit

Rap du Québcuois. I have no idea what they're rhyming about, but this is a cool retro-style video with lots of neon effects. I love the guy floating on the neon donut. The neon guy swallowing is also tre magnifique. The Rubix cube heads are awesome. Directed by Jérémie Saindon

I like their older song better - a lot better. The video is Flash-animated and is about vodka, carmel and chewing gum. How could that not be great?

Pontiac - Worlds

Bill Bergen, a former student of mine, sent me the link to this great Pontiac commercial. The particles are just beautiful.

The commercial was done by The Mill, who also did the Snow Patrol "Set The Fire To The Third Bar" video, with the cool juxtaposed faces on the one-way glass.

Across the Universe Trailer

across the universeI caught the trailer for Across the Universe on tv tonight during Colbert Report and it looks awesome. As the comments on Slashfilm read, I also have been impressed with the musicals of the past few years. Loved Moulin Rouge and this one looks even better. I'm a huge fan of the Beatles and these renditions are excellent. I hate it when Beatles songs are ruined. I love the "Sadie" rendition of "Oh, Darlin;". Gotta be Sexy Sadie. I've noticed that the characters are named after characters from Beatles tunes (Prudence, Jude, etc.)

It looks like it has a strong plot too. The effects look pretty damn cool. I'm digging the quick shot of Uncle Sam. This one is a must see for me.

Smashing Pumpkins - Taratantula (Video Contest Winner by Levi Ahmu)

The Smashing Pumpkins had a video contest and their fans had the opportunity to use their green screen footage from the video for Tarantula to create their own music video. Levi Ahmu won the contest. It's as good as the original. I do see a lot of Trapcode 3D Stroke. The original video was featured at Toolfarm Inspirations on July 2, 2007.

I do think this is one of the better rock tunes that SP has come out with since their Mellon Collie album.

Offhollywood RED Shoot - Behind The Scenes

Toolfarm Forum Expert Jim Geduldick worked on a video about the Red camera. That's the back of Jim's head at 1:11.

When I was 18 I worked at Chi-Chi's as a hostess. I'd have to check IDs in the evening to let people in the bar. The jukebox played Kickstart My Heart non-stop. I can't hear Motley Crue without thinking of Chajitas.

I've been away on vacation for a week and the Toolfarm Expert Forum has been crazy busy while I was away. Zach posted a question about how this video was created. Mylenium gave him a good honest answer. Read the post and feel free to add your own comments and ideas.
